Methane Leak
Scientists have discovered the Arctic ocean seabed is leaking huge amounts of methane into the atmosphere.  The research published in the journal Science shows the permafrost under the East Siberian Arctic shelf, which was thought to be a barrier sealing methane, is perforated.  Read more here. Data Purge at CRU

Canadian statistician Steve McIntyre is well known for his thorough auditing of climate models and the data used to construct these models.   But a recent request for data by Mr McIntyre has so annoyed some at the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia that rather than provide the information, they have started withdrawing data that was previously publicly available.  Read more here.

Why would you help someone out who relentlessly attacks you and your colleagues in the most personal and demeaning manner?

    @SJT

“Why would you help someone out who relentlessly attacks you and your colleagues in the most personal and demeaning manner?”

Because despite the poor behaviour you describe, Dr Phil Jones and his colleagues at CRU need all the help they can get.

A con is a con is a con.

I’ve no idea where the “relentlessly attacks you and your colleagues in the most personal and demeaning manner” comes from but its not Steve McIntyre.

Perhaps “SJT” would like to ask Steve for his file on the letters sent to scientific journals by the Hockey Team that were filled with defamatory claims, because that’s definitely where you’ll find the “most personal and demeaning”.

You can’t have read his web site.

If Dr. Phil can’t stand the heat…….

He’s a public servant using taxpayer funds to provide taxpayers with information.
It is perfectly reasonable and healthy from a taxpayers pov for him to provide his data to another academic wishing to replicate and validate his work.

He is just being precious. Inflated ego syndrome.

  7. Comment from: SJT

He is a scientist, if you think a paper is wrong, you publish your own paper. McIntyre is not interested in science, his only interest is personalising the issue and being a coward. If he had any balls, he would be out there publishing his evidence that he is right. If the CRU was to give him the information he wouldn’t be publishing it, he would be hiding out on his website in cowards castle.

    SJT, you are a nong!

McIntyre would still need the data that Jones is “sequestering”.

As I said to your mate Luke, if these academics could sequester ACO2 like they do data, there wouldn’t be a problem.

  9. Comment from: SJT

“McIntyre would still need the data that Jones is “sequestering”.”

My point is he wouldn’t publish. There are also plenty of other issues he raises on his site he could publish a paper on. His total to date you could count on the fingers of one hand, including those published in E&E.

Nothing says ‘fraud!’ quite so plainly as pretending that the data is to precious to be touched by the unworthy.
The AGW scam is falling apart, even as the political power of AGW seems strongest.

“Nothing says ‘fraud!’ quite so plainly as pretending that the data is to precious to be touched by the unworthy.”

You have it the wrong way around. McIntyre’s only aim is to not prove that he is right, but to discredit climate scientists, to make them ‘unworthy’. He doesn’t deserve the time of day. He doesn’t use data to publish papers, they don’t get him any attention, he just creates a public pillory on his web site.

  12. Comment from: hunter

    SJT,
If the data is robust, it will stand up to scrutiny. McIntyre has been vindicated. AGW is not climate science. It is a theory of how the climate works. And, as you know, the set of ‘climate scientist’ is not = to ‘those who agree with AGW’. That you persist in trying to imply other wise only shows your trollishness.
Suppression of data is admission of fraud. Period.

  13. Comment from: SJT

“Suppression of data is admission of fraud. Period.”

McIntrye is an abusive, libellous bully who has completely ignored the accepted and succesful scientific method. Ignore him.

  14. Comment from: SJT

Take this example of McIntyre ‘auditing’.

    http://tamino.wordpress.com/2008/03/19/pca-part-5-non-centered-pca-and-multiple-regressions/

    http://www.climateaudit.org/?p=2897

He completely ignores Tamino’s analysis of the PCA method, and just goes for a kick to the nuts.

I think his auditing would be more appropriate at the Church of Scientology.

  15. Comment from: hunter

    SJT,
    Tamino is not actually credible.
RC and Tamino are nothing more than AGW propagandists.
    McIntyre is a libelous bully?
Please show us the court cases establishing his libel.
At least he is not unlawfully suppressing data paid for by tax payer money.
But I guess you do at least accept that AGW is not = to climate science?
    That would be some progress.
BTW, by your logic newspapers and journalists should not be allowed access to data either.
You are not rationalizing a slippery slope, SJT, you are off a cliff.
