YESTERDAY the US President, Barrack Obama, urged action to curb “dangerous carbon emissions that contaminate the water we drink”.
If you consider carbon dioxide a “dangerous contaminate” and want to get rid of the carbon dioxide in say the soda, before you drink it, then shake the bottle first. Fizzing allows dissolved carbon dioxide gas to be released in the form of bubbles.
But here’s a dilemma, since the fizz in the soda is actually dissolved carbon dioxide gas, shouldn’t you really be trying to keep as much of the gas in the bottle as possible as suggested by US scientists, Steve Spangler?

Good on Jen, I needed a laugh.
“But here’s a dilemma, since the fizz in the soda is actually dissolved carbon dioxide gas, shouldn’t you really be trying to keep as much of the gas in the bottle as possible as suggested by US scientists, Steve Spangler? ”
I would think that since the CO2 in coke is actually extracted from the atmosphere (it’s a good thing that the CO2 doesn’t have a 55 year half life in the filling machine) Steve Spangler should just buy all the soda pop he can and bury it.
janama says
It’s all just a lot of hot air – or should I say – hot expelled carbon dioxide.
Penny Wong was expelling her share this morning on the ABC where she informed us that the latest scientific reports tell us dangerous climate change is happening faster than projected and China and Japan are acting yet we are delaying.
All totally untrue but definitely hot air pollution.
Allen Ford says
“dangerous climate change is happening faster than projected”
On what real evidence?
janama says
apparently a new scientific report from Copenhagen suggested climate change was happening faster than projected. She’s been spouting that lie for weeks.
Marcus says
I wonder how this would effect beer and fizzy drink sales?
I mean the whole idea is to have CO2 in there?
The mind boggles at the stupidity of politicians, or cleverness?
As Jan said “it is actually extracted from the atmosphere” in the first place.

Perhaps those who believe this should stop breathing and farting and do everone a favour.

Eventually there will be lots of fizzy water coming out of the ground it the carbons sequestration proponents have there way. A test is about to be done next to a power plant in Ohio.
“The test will include injection of a total of 3000 metric tons of carbon dioxide during a period of 45-60 days starting mid-September”

A Lake Nyos type disaster seems unlikely in the near future but I wonder what happens after 100 years of building up a big reservoir of pressurized CO2 underground.

1,171.5 million tons of coal were purchased in the US last year. Convert that to CO2 and bury it and you have a lot of fizzy water.
JAE says
OK, I’ve said it on several blogs, already, so here it is again. BHO IS A DUMB JACKASS.
JAE says
No noise from the AGW freaks that frequent this site? Perhaps even they are shocked to see so much stupidity on the part of BHO? I’m sure there are millions of little adoring Democrats who think his statement was just brilliant. God save the USA!
Ian Mott says
I guess that means his honeymoon is over, JAE. Dude raised by his anglo mom and anglo grannies becomes a role model for african american boys. And the lesson? Looks like an advert for the “stolen generation” to me.
Malcolm Hill says
JAE
BHO may be a dumb jackass but the USA has real problem developing if this is true.
Thank God that Australia has compulsory voting.

“Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the Presidential election:
• Number of States won by: Democrats:19 Republicans: 29
• Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
• Population of counties won by: Democrats:127 million Republicans: 143 million
• Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…”
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.

About the same applies to Penny Wong.
I afraid we’re seeing the collapse of western civilization aided and abetted by the green left.
Luke says
Well predictable that the denialist scum would be so insensitive as to put their own selfish needs for fizzy drinks above the global climate. It is estimated that 3% of global emissions is involved in drink carbonation. And according to Yaste 2007 (Climate Dynamics) – the radiative properties of sucrose and aspartame gas borne bubble films far exceed global plasma TV emissions of nitrogen trifluoride.
Have you goons considered how band broadening around a drink CO2 bubble film works? And aspartame is 14x sucrose. Think of it as a form of water vapour feedback but more potent.
Then there’s the embedded energy in aluminium cans, bottles and distribution, as well as refrigeration. Globally you’re looking at the greenhouse emission budget of New Zealand. Exporters of climate denialist sheep shagging scum. Really it’s no laughing matter and I can’t see why Jen thinks it’s so funny.
Jan Pompe says
Luke you really take the cake:
“It is estimated that 3% of global emissions is involved in drink carbonation.”?
After that 3% was extracted from the atmosphere I’d say it was carbon neutral.
“the radiative properties of sucrose and aspartame gas borne bubble films far exceed global plasma TV emissions of nitrogen trifluoride.”
OK high time to put the sugar cane farmers out of business. I was going to suggest they change over to that stuff that you’ve been smoking but that is illegal.
“Really it’s no laughing matter and I can’t see why Jen thinks it’s so funny.”
Because it’s hilarious.
Luke says
It may have been extracted from the atmosphere but with death creating coal fired electricity to aid concentration and compression. All carbonated drinks should be declared illegal. This is our agenda after compulsory sterilisation of all sceptics. Although given the number that are numb nuts perhaps we need not bother.

You really are jumping the shark.

Did you know that Chicago doesn’t do recycling? They have that Great Lakes waterway to ship the trash out but they still don’t/ that tells me something.
I feel compelled to defend my President.
Before he was elected, when we had the choice between BHO and JMac, there were a series of associations which B found inconvenient, a Vietnam era former domestic terrorist, a racist pastor who precided at the Obama wedding, an unreformed communist mentor who happened to be the only elder black male local to B in Hawaii, ect.
Much was made of B’s penchant for cutting ties. “Throwing them under the campaign bus” was the joke of the season on conservative blogs. What you wouldn’t know by reading on the internet is the extent of Barry’s disassociation from these nefarious characters of the past. I didn’t even know it myself until a couple weeks back. I’m at a bookstore looking at the magazine rack and there’s the Time magazine special “Obama” – the life in pictures retrospective.
I was a bit surprised there were no pictures of Ann Dunham. There were no pictures of Grandma & Grandpa Dunham either. OK. Plenty of wedding photos, twenty years of church activitiies with the kids and such, but no picture of Pastor Bigot. No pictures of O standing next to Mayor Daily or the Chicago machine, Acorn, celebrating past election victories.
The only family beyond the immediate were relatives he met on trips to Kenya.
It’s a bit sad to me that he feels the need to erase huge chunks of his past for political expedience, even in an informal celebritory magazine meant for the consumption of the B faithful.
Contrast with JMcCain. His embarassing past associations are embraced and drawn closer. He doesn’t hide people for the sake of campaigns.
Now here is the nut of the thing. Both BHO and JMac said in the course of the campaign that they believe in global warming, and are going to lead with AGW in mind. McCain has a history of sticking it to the party, siding with the donks to abridge freedom of speech, blocking conservative judges, ect. so I believe JM when he says he will lead the fight on global warming. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out JM is a co=sponsor of Wax/Markey bill; probably the only one from the Rep party.
But Barack… B has a history of torpedoing political opponents who he perceives as counterproductive.
Could it be that Al Gore is a bit embarassing for Barry?
Let’s look at the history. Al made an hour long speech at the DNC without mentioning his chief money making issue. Who could it have been that passed the word to Albert to stuff the GW talk?> In fact global warming wasn’t mentioned much at all at the DNC and besides the nominating John Holdren as his science advisor (a raving zero population growth lunatic/sop to the lunatic fringe of the Dem party), it wasn’t given much talk during the head to head campaigning between BO and JM>
Recently an official report of impacts on the USA was released. It’s filled with what amount to global warming rumours/ the science has been amputated. You couldn’t have handed skeptics a better gift if you tried. That was issued by Barry.
I’m just saying this “mistake” follows a pattern. At the very least, it shows global warming isn’t high on Barry’s priority list. Or maybe he has read the tea leaves and due to his position as leader of the Donks he can’t very well come out and dissavow agw, but he has no intention of being sunk with it as an anchor.
Luke, your insanity defence is shaping up nicely.
dhmo says
This is really concerning what’s next will any drink containing CO2 be banned? The next thing is going to be water vapour since it is a far more evil substance in GHG terms than CO2. In fact this has already started see http://www.ecoenquirer.com/EPA-water-vapor.htm. There has been obviously been a hidden campaign against this dangerous material. Other problems are that when condensed it becomes the major component of most poisons. Many people die from it when it is frozen. There are recorded events where even ships sank because of this evil scourge, ban it I say.

Yes, DHMO, it easily converts to Hydrogen Dioxide. It is found in very high concentrations in our water ways and drains and it has been known to cause the death of hundreds of people each year. I also understand it was used as an instrument of torture against islamic militants and is a known fire retardant. It is a key ingredient in toxic algal blooms and has been linked to every single reported instance of fish kills. It is also routinely combined with herbicides to enhance their potency. And a lethal dose of it can render humans brain dead within 5 minutes.
dhmo says
Ian do you think we could convince Luke et al to start a movement to have WV banned. We see power stations belching the evil stuff out all the time. It is pervading the whole biosphere it must be stopped.

Here it is, the one we have all waited for.
CO2 getting loose in the atmosphere, escaping from the water ,in the vapour.
Always knew that we should be watching the sun.
It is the missing link – Water vapour saturated with evil CO2 -Forced into our precious environment
and polluting the water. What is causing this ? THE SUN . We can’t tax that to stop it, so what shall we do ?
Simple. Throw virgins into a lake , that is the time honoured method of appeasing that evil star.

Ah, but when certain carbon embedded solids are allowed to degenerate into substances which “emit the dangerous carbon emissions that contaminate the water we drank . . .” was demonstrated many years ago when two of my buddies lost control of their pickup, left the road, bounced across the bar ditch and tore up almost a mile of barbwire fence. They were lucky it was not a cliff. It can be very, very, dangerous.
I consider it my bounding duty to destroy as much of this vile product, as possible. So . . . I’ll go pop the cap and a cold brew, and help save the planet.
