US Cap n Trade Legislation Unlikely to Pass

March 13, 2009 By jennifer

US Senator Kent Conrad said that it would be a “distant hope” to expect the climate change plan to pass unless it includes help for industries that would be hit hard by limits on carbon emission production.  Read more here.

Good timing, I’d say. Introducing a Cap & Trade measure in the middle of a severe recession may be the kiss of death for the idea for the next couple of years. By that time, the Global Cooling Deniers (assuming continued low sunspot activity) may not have the chutzpah to bring it up again.

Obama can humor the climate doomsday fundies in his own party without sabotaging the U.S. economy. Then if the Aussies want to drag their heels on C&T, they’ll feel more comfortable in doing so.

This is the proof in the pudding to anyone who thinks AGW theory is a left-wing plot. Obama and the Democrats talked big about a global warming package, but reports surfaced that they were only paying lip service. Although Democrats are seen as left-wingers by extreme right-wingers, they are as much right-wingers as the republicans.

During the Clinton administration, a similar lip-service was performed by Clinton to medicare, although he wasn’t averse to getting lip-sevice from a certain intern. Gore hardly ever mentioned global warming, being far more keen on being a watchdog over rock group lyrics. Suddenly he’s making millions promoting it.

It would be a shame if Obama was not successful in implementing medicare because millions of Yanks need it desperately. Somehow I think he’ll be no more than a figurehead, like George W., while other right-wingers, passing themselves off as Democrats, run the show. The Democrats have always been their own worst enemy. Although I’ll be happy if they don’t implement global warming legislation, I’ll feel disappointed with their hypocrisy.
