Folks,
Please shake your head with me in wonderment at the continuation of a pernicious technique that was pioneered (I think) by Oxfam last year. Why do we give access to our schools to these people?

And I suppose that it is just a coincidence that these two ventures should be launched in the same week on opposite sides of the Pacific, with their closing dates timed to ensure press attention in the lead up to Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, you will also doubtless be interested to hear that the summit of Everest is now being affected by global warming, leading to another WWF-led publicity stunt:

What does an organisation have to do these days to become banned by the government?
It’s going to be a long six months until Copenhagen.

Using AGW to scare children? Good question!
Back in the day, we used to have ‘drop drills’ in elementary school, where we’d crawl under our desks, get into the knees-down version of the fetal position, and put our hands behind our heads. That was supposed to protect us if the evil Commies dropped an A-bomb nearby, or if we had a big earthquake (California). It wasn’t particularly scary though; we all believed that Dada knows best, and that he could keep us safe. But Anthropogenic Global Warming Disasterism is a whole different ball of wax.
Fundie and Catholic schools are free to frighten children with the threat of eventually going to Hell if they don’t tow the line. However we Merkins are supposed to have a reasonable degree of separation of church and state. (It’s in what’s left of our Constitution.) So publicly-funded schools can’t use religion to scare the bejesus out of innocent children, and those administrators are feeling slightly out-of-the-loop. Then along comes the CO2 Monster, together with The Goracle’s secular version of going to hell. Would you believe BOTH polar ice caps being 100% melted within 5 years? Lying to children about AGWD must make public school administrators feel omnipotent!

These two stories show not only scaring, but wholesale indoctrination:

Here in Canada David Suzuki has graduated from scaring children and urging them who to vote for when they get the vote. He is now scaring skiers by telling them global warming will prevent the snow they so cherish.
I am hoping for once that warming will rear its head and kill the Winter Olympics in Vancouver for 2010. We are already a billion over budget and tickets for events are running around CAN $700. We can’t afford to help the ever-increasing number of people sleeping on the streets, but we can shell out huge huge sums for ice skating arenas, bobsled runs and ski jumps. We have shut down 4000 hospital beds and several hospitals, but when it comes to lining the pockets of the wealthy, the sky is the limit. I sure can’t afford $700 for an event.
Come on, rain.
