Climate Report Plays Hockey with Photoshop

August 5, 2008 By jennifer

The new US Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) report has been criticised by the likes of Roger Pielke Senior and Junior because science comes a poor third to sloppiness and political advocacy. The report represents the biased and narrow opinions of the lead authors, rather like the UN IPCC reports.

Amongst the report’s many and deliberate flaws are the use of the discredited ‘Hockey Stick’ figure from the Arctic Climate Assessment report (that splices paleoclimate temperature proxies and the modern instrument record, despite expert views that such splicing should not be done), and a image of a flooded house doctored using photoshop.

Maybe one day we will see an objective, scientific climate report that is actually of genuine use to policymakers. I fear global cooling will come to Hell first!

Why would anyone even be remotely surprised by this? This surprise is that they haven’t been caught out doing this more often.

Remember – the whole AGW scam is based on a fraud committed on Day 1 – the day of Hansen’s testimony before congress in 1988.

Read the first few pages of the Frontline transcript, and ask yourself if this is the conduct of a group of concerned moral crusaders, or a bunch of hacks, frauds and liars:
    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/hotpolitics/etc/script.html

“TIMOTHY WIRTH: We called the Weather Bureau and found out what historically was the hottest day of the summer. Well, it was June 6th or June 9th or whatever it was. So we scheduled the hearing that day, and bingo, it was the hottest day on record in Washington, or close to it.

DEBORAH AMOS: [on camera] Did you also alter the temperature in the hearing room that day?

TIMOTHY WIRTH: What we did is that we went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right, so that the air conditioning wasn’t working inside the room. And so when the- when the hearing occurred, there was not only bliss, which is television cameras and double figures, but it was really hot.”

    So — what has changed?

The full version carbon temperature graph is a available Impacts of a Warming Arctic: Arctic Climate Impact Assessment. ACIA Overview report (part A)
    from http://www.acia.uaf.edu/pages/overview.html

It appears to be an old graph, yet the the USA is not alone in using old graphs as we see at FAQ at http://www.climatechange.gov.au/science/faq/question2.html

The hockey stick is valid. The myth is out there that it’s not, but that’s how these internet myths work. Tell enough people, and it becomes a fact.

The ‘hockey stick’ isn’t “valid,” even less so given the fact it uses withheld, unreliable and erroneous data.

“myths work. Tell enough people, and it becomes a fact.” You just explained AGW!

Chip Knappenberger has put up a scathing assessment of the CCSP report.

A picture is worth a thousand words. That photoshopped flooded house will will generate a lot of currency – on the debit side.

But this CCSP report is, apparently, only a draft. The final product should be a doozy.
