As media regularly accuse every scientist skeptical of man’s role in global warming as being on the payroll of Big Oil, you almost never see a news report addressing the funding of those responsible for spreading climate alarmism.
This all changed Thursday when the Seattle Post-Intelligencer published an op-ed by the John Locke Foundation’s Paul Chesser detailing how one environmental advocate receives funds from largely liberal donors to encourage state governments to impose strict regulations on all things speculated to be causing global warming.

Hat tip to Woody.
Luke says
What an authoritative article from a lying neo-con stooge. Not worth two knobs of goat poop. Just more of the conspiracy nonsense that Woody loves to wallow in.
Seems like Turnbull and Howard are now going to sign Kyoto now guys. Big carbon taxes and world government only months away. You’re all our prisoners now.
MUWAHAUAUAUAUWAWAWA
Woody says
Hey, Luke, I’m not a liar and the information within the article was correct. If EXXON funding bothers you, then funding in support of global warming deceivers by wackos like Ted Turner would be meaningful. Your comment was not a very good dodge, even by your low standards. Give me your incandescent light bulbs and your plasma tvs, since you won’t be using them anymore. Enjoy the dark and the long walks.
John says
“Lying neo-con stooge” ?? What’s your evidence for such a statement?
Oh! it’s Luke. I shouldn’t bothered to ask for evidence then.
Helen Mahar says
The USA is a funny place. Someone is successful in business and makes a huge fortune. But estate duties – or whatever they are called in the US – makes it unbusinesslike to leave it to the kids. So set up a foundation; non profit of course. Then the kids get jobs for life running the foundation and making grants to support various causes.
What is funny is that so many of the kids forget that the fortune they manage came from business, and donate the proceeds to support causes out to destroy businesses and capitalism. Like Teresa Heinz Kerry. Funny place.
The funding example above is a shocker. Foundations funding advocacy bodies not to influence government policy bodies, but to capture and run (control) them. Serious undermining of process, of independance, of accountability, and of transparency in government.
Luke says
It’s try-on and hearsay – you’ve got nothing !
Waste of time.
Evidence John is up to the accusers.
Government is lobbied all the time – pretty weak representation if it doesn’t make up it’s own mind.
Woody says
Luke isn’t aware that politicians act like politicians and will do whatever is popular or whatever the polls tell them to do. Call it “weak representation” if you will, but it’s reality. (By Luke’s description, Pres. Bush must be a strong leader to not be swayed by outsiders.)
If people like Luke and “independent” foundations beat citizens over the head and control government studies, then gullible citizens will say “government needs to do something,” and the politicians will abide.
SJT says
Yeah, I know Woody, just look at John Howard. A natural denier, becomes a believer overnight when the polls tell him to.
Luke says
Well gee Woodstcok – hasn’t had any real impact on Howard or Bush’s views – so bulldust to that theory.
Reality – Canberra and Washington is full of all sorts of lobby groups – what else is new?
Incidentally how would like democracy to work – ask your opinion ? What happended to the old freedom to associate and organise?
Schiller Thurkettle says
Luke, SJT,
A lot of things go right over your heads. If I were in a generous mood, I’d say that’s because you’re always ducking.
SJT says
Schiller
strangely enough, the science doesn’t.
Schiller Thurkettle says
SJT,
Glad to hear the science doesn’t duck over your head.
That confirms how you’re the one that’s ducking.
It took you a long time to reply here. Did the companies selling windmills and all-natural health-food remedies for dropsy, vapors, etc. cut your funding?
