The majority of the British public is still not convinced that climate change is caused by humans – and many others believe scientists are exaggerating the problem, according to an exclusive poll for The Observer.
The Observer: Poll: most Britons doubt cause of climate change
njay says
Most people will be cynical about any proposition when they are told they must believe “the debate is over.”
DHMO says
Saving the planet is okay until real costs start to hit home. For the UK to actually show a change in the composition of the atmosphere by its actions can only come at a devastating cost. All you is an opposition who says the UK could move their economy into the third world and not have any effect. Follow this by saying and showing the predicted change from responsible sources can be easily managed and UK Labor is out.
Neville says
It’s great to have it confirmed that the majority of the Brits have seen through this fraudulent con trick.
Every sane Brit or Aussie knows that irrespective of their countries action the influence we can have on CC or GHG’s is zilch.
This moronic, infantile idea that we can somehow dial up or manipulate the climate just shows how far some scientists have followed this new religion abandoning science along the way.
Luke says
All just words Neville – the global atmosphere doesn’t care for opinion polls.
DHMO says
Luke “All just words Neville – the global atmosphere doesn’t care for opinion polls” stating that is just moronic. What’s wrong short of links?
Luke says
Well does it?

Can we see your research supporting this proposition as a matter of urgency? It would seem that all published work supporting AGW will have to be dismissed as all the authors are morons or infants.
Why weren’t we told?
And why are universities handing out PhDs to the mentally incapacitated and children under the age of three. Are the departments being run by toddlers?

Outraged.

Meanwhile the ABC in Tasmania is convinced on Global warming: this from its latest edition of ‘Stateline’
“20/06/2008
Climate change
It’s being described as the most serious threat to humanity but the debate over what to do about it is far from over. The scientific evidence for climate change is overwhelming. Both conservationists and economists are warning the risks demand an urgent global response”

what people are beginning to notice over time is that the climate aint changing and now they are being told in fact we are going to cool for 10-15 years so obviously doubts are setting everywhere

The changes are quite apparent to people in SE Australia. The timeline for the whole change to become most apparent is, IIRC, about a century. A blink of the eye in geological terms.
Steve says
Devil is in the detail eh?
“Two thirds want the government to do more but nearly as many said they were cynical about government policies such as green taxes, which they see as ‘stealth’ taxes.”
So people are skeptical, but two thirds want the government to do more!? Hmmm.
Might need to read the full survey to see what the situation really is, if indeed it was a quality survey and not another bit of fluff.
Perhaps people *are* concerned about climate change, but don’t want to personally have to foot the bill if they think that the government is not tackling the program efficiently, or if the government is just going to squander their taxes etc.
And lets face it, poms are whingers, so of course british public opinion shows a preference for govt to do more while doing less and lowering taxes. Its not cynical. Its just whiny. Difficult to take them seriously.
Well, I’m off to drink 17 cans of fosters then ride my kangaroo home….
Ian Mott says
No, they actually feel some anxiety about a social phenomena called climate alarmism and they try to balance their basic need to conform with the cost of that conformity. The actual climate has nothing to do with it.

Good question! I ask the same thing about once a week. Patrick B, if that was suppose to be a rhetorical question, you must be unfamiliar with the declining state of academia. Don’t punt on strings of ciphers following names.
Steve, gotta a license for that roo, mate?

There was a press release recently as follows:
“On May 19, 2008, the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine released a petition signed by over 30,000 U.S. scientists rejecting claims that global warming is caused by human activity and condemning the Kyoto Protocol for its damage to humanity”.
When you get this kind of input to the debate, no wonder there is scepticism in the public.
It also blows away any claim made by the IPCC, the environmental lobby and the Rudd government of consensus among the scientific community.
