Merry Christmas & Beware the White Ibis

IT is just two more sleeps until Christmas.
Down under, that is here in Australia, it is summer.  Right along the east coast the weather is usually warm, often sunny, and it’s a time when extended families enjoy picnics and barbeques together outside.
A native Australian bird, the Australian White Ibis, Threskiornis spinicollis, has learnt to take advantage [...]

Store Carbon as Biochar

One solution to “carbon pollution” is biochar, but according to the Australian government’s policy on emissions trading, the science of biochar is not fully developed – so it can’t be included in any emissions trading scheme.

SO many things are blamed on global warming.  A quick internet search of reported repercussions just beginning with ‘p’, includes psychiatric illness, puffin decline, plankton blooms, polar bears drowning, polar bears cannibalistic and polar bears deaf.
Last week another was added when Professor Steven Williams from James Cook University, said a rare white possum might have [...]

The forest has historically been grazed and the Barmah locals believe [...]

Inuit to Cull 200 Stranded Whales

LAST Sunday Inuit from Baffin Island, in the Canadian Arctic, discovered about 200 whales trapped in ice near Pond Inlet.  In the Arctic open water is starting to freeze-over with the onset of winter.
Yesterday the Inuit started culling the whales, known as Narwhal, apparently on the advice of their elders and in the belief that otherwise the [...]
