Bigots, Climate Change Deniers and George Orwell

GEORGE Brandis says it is “deplorable” deniers are being excluded from the climate change debate and people who say the science is settled are ignorant and medieval.

The attorney general called the leader of the opposition in the Senate, Penny Wong, the “high priestess of political correctness” and said he did not regret his comment that everyone has the right to be a bigot in an interview with the online magazine Spiked.

He said one of the main motivators for his passionate defence of free speech has been the “deplorable” way climate change has been debated and he was “really shocked by the sheer authoritarianism of those who would have excluded from the debate the point of view of people who were climate-change deniers”.

“One side [has] the orthodoxy on its side and delegitimises the views of those who disagree, rather than engaging with them intellectually and showing them why they are wrong,” he said…

“The moment you establish the state as the arbiter of what might be said, you establish the state as the arbiter of what might be thought, and you are right in the territory that George Orwell foreshadowed.”

And I’m quoting from Bridie Jabour writing in the The Guardian!

The Bolter nails the extremists on all their dud predictions. And jumping in with both feet in his gob is that dingaling Adam Bandt.
But what they’re really frightened of is the facts and the truth about their CAGW garbage finding its way to the OZ electorate.

The State , as in minor , NSW, has ridden roughshod over anything it feels like , in the name of conservation. While doing this the officers of the State have made themselves millions in backhanders and future jobs. How did Carr get to be a consultant for the forestry company who cleared Red Hill ? SHORT MEMORY. And the ABC. All the “conservation parks” will be exploited. Watch this space.

I have said it before , read Ben Elton’s ‘This other Eden’
The MONEY is in conservation. Conserving anything is not what the instigators actually want.
    Money is.

  3. cohenite April 19, 2014 at 6:49 pm #

Ian do you have a link for Carr being a consultant for the Red Hill business?

  4. Neville April 19, 2014 at 7:25 pm #

A new study has found that SLs are now the lowest for millions of years. Thye fact is we live at the cool end of one coolest interglacials for millions of years.
How much longer can these stupid numbskulls get away with their lies and abuse?

  5. Robert April 19, 2014 at 7:51 pm #

Remember when there was going to have to be a debate about climate change? Then there had to be action on climate change?
You must have been in the bathroom when they had the debate. Or maybe you were taking out the garbage. Or you blinked.

When collectivists of the New Class demand a debate, rest assured that the debate is over. When they advocate a free market, rest assured that their “market” is as free as Mother Russia. And when it all turns to waste and mess, you can be sure it was someone else’s money and land and resources they sent down the toilet.

  6. Neville April 19, 2014 at 8:37 pm #

A new study has found that glacier retreat has decelerated after 1950. Exactly the opposite to so called CAGW.
Just backs up all the recent studies that also show a deceleration in SLR. When will the extremists stop lying and throw in the towel?

  7. Robert April 19, 2014 at 9:03 pm #

Nev, Rhinelander, Wisconsin has been keeping snow measurements since 1908. This season has set the record, beating out 1938/9…and more snow is coming.

Sadly, not even BoM knows how to fiddle precipitation records, so it’s easier for the MSM to simply pretend that the extended North American winter is not happening. Mind you, everybody knows enough not to embark on a yachting tour of Lake Superior right now. Not even Chris Turney.

  8. Chris F April 19, 2014 at 11:18 pm #

So now it’s time for the current government to start highlighting some of the skeptics views. Use the bully pulpit to quash this notion that mankind controls the climate. Use the power of the purse to starve the alarmists of funds so their propaganda comes to an end. Use the power of the dept. of education to purge from the schools all this propaganda they’ve been fed for years and bring the curriculum back to science and away from ideology.

Take these steps and sanity will prevail.

  9. Neville April 20, 2014 at 9:02 am #

Another new study finds SLs were 4 metres higher at Uruguay 4,300 years ago.

New study shows a 31% deceleration of SLR since 2002.

  11. bazza April 20, 2014 at 9:54 am #

What a joke – quoting Brandis. “One side [has] the orthodoxy on its side and delegitimises the views of those who disagree, rather than engaging with them intellectually and showing them why they are wrong,” he said…Brandis should have sent a few denialists here and learnt how to engage intellectually at the home of ad homs, cheap shots and cherry picking extrordinaire.

  12. spangled drongo April 20, 2014 at 9:59 am #

Yes, the Gores, Lewandowskys, Manns etc., all claim to champion free speech yet why is it even when these true believers are required by law to speak freely they prefer not to.

Mark Stein knows only too well:

  13. spangled drongo April 20, 2014 at 10:45 am #

“at the home of ad homs, cheap shots and cherry picking extrordinaire.”

Well bazza, both sides are guilty of that but that isn’t the point at all.

The point is; you’re allowed to come here and spout your dumb remarks.

  14. Robert April 20, 2014 at 11:08 am #

For me, the ultimate cherry-pick is treating “climate” as something which began in 1980 and will range into the next few centuries. About the period 1980-2014 our cherry pickers tend to be dogmatic but a bit confused, uncertain and can even be downright ignorant; as for the period after 2014, their knowledge and certainty are absolute.

But I do like the fact that bazza comes on to a hostile site to express his potty views. And I like the fact that his potty views get a hearing on this site.

  15. Ian Thomson April 20, 2014 at 11:22 am #

    Sorry Cohenite, I don’t.
Whether he still is even I don’t know . ( Now he is so busy).
However , not too many years ago , he was quoted as being the environmental consultant for the Tumut based timber company. ( Which uses the pine trees , planted after clearance of natives.)

  16. Ian Thomson April 20, 2014 at 11:26 am #

And Bazza, you should read the accounts of Priestess Pennywongs meeting with the real weather people. She and her mob entered through another door , she lectured the scientists , took no opinions .
No hands were even shaken. Lying pigs in swill Baz.

  17. Neville April 20, 2014 at 11:59 am #

I think the delusional warmists must suffer from both innumeracy and illiteracy, because they just don’t seem to understand simple facts.
But here’s a bloke on the Bolt Report that does seem to get it. And he’s a marxist as well.

  18. Ian Thomson April 20, 2014 at 1:03 pm #

    Hi Cohenite,
    Found it mate.

I firmly believe that this is the way our current NSW Govt is working-
Nothing so crude as money in the bank , or shares. Just a gift job later on, when the heat is off.
I wonder, when I read the sycophantic wikipedia page on Carr and the lauding of his saving of the Pilliga, whether Santos has embarrassed he and his mates, with their urgency to exploit.
Or have they become cheeky enough to believe nobody will notice

Reading of this and thinking of 800 Pilliga CSG wells, approved by both sides of politics, there have to be dirty hands. Short memories might not be enough, now they are upsetting quiet farming people.

  19. Neville April 20, 2014 at 7:38 pm #

The EU now has 2.2 billion surplus co2 certificates valued???? at about 5 euros each. And Germany now pays about 20 billion a year for useless, clueless feed in tarrifs.

Of course Labor and the Greens want OZ to join this ponzi scheme idiocy and will fight tooth and claw to impose this deception on the OZ electorate and our economy. Change to co2 emissions or weather or climate or temp will be zip by 2100. Easily the biggest ponzi scheme con and fraud in our history.

  20. bazza April 21, 2014 at 11:16 am #

Brandis may well champion intellectual engagement with denialists but why would you bother when they go to great lengths to avoid doing even a minimum of research on the tired old recycled delusions they keep sprouting to support their beliefs. The top 100 denialists scams have all been rebutted.

  21. Ian Thomson April 21, 2014 at 11:58 am #

    Hi Bazza,
    And the hundred are?
Don’t you find it a little worrying that, given the fact we still should be warming, ( ever so slowly), from the last ice age, the planet is cooling lately.
I realise that heat causes cold in your religion, ( “extreme weather events” ), but how cold must it get before it stops warming ? How much more polar ice will make it stop cooling from the heat ?
No amount of record fiddling , or science is settled arrogance, can alter written accounts of extremes of heat and cold in the last 1000 years. No scientist with a computer and an agenda can unfreeze the frozen LIA Thames , or undo the strong evidence of the Chinese poking around the polar regions in the 1400s, ( nor the Vikings earlier ).
No matter how much Jones and Hansen want it erased from history.

  22. bazza April 21, 2014 at 12:10 pm #

    I rest my case

  23. hunter April 21, 2014 at 12:15 pm #

Lefties only demand a debate when they are not on top. When they do get in charge, they declare the debate over and seek to at the least marginalize those who dare resist.
And of course, as we see in the USA, they do not merely stop at marginalization, but use IRS, EPA, BLM, FBI, NSA to monitor, intrude, harass, disrupt, etc. And of course with interlocking relationships between govt. and media, we can count on media either ignoring the skeptics/dissidents or misrepresenting them.
Australia is setting a great example of true liberalism in the classic, society building sense of the word. And showing people how to reject the illiberal oligarchy that modern lefties seem to flock to.

  24. hunter April 21, 2014 at 12:16 pm #

You can rest your case, sort of like the good Capt. Queeg rested his case.

  25. Neville April 21, 2014 at 12:43 pm #

Bazza I would be fascinated to see that list of denialist scams or even perhaps the top ten would do. And what case do you think you’re resting?

Your sides fraud and con is so easily understood and so obvious you’d have to be a religious fanatic to ignore it.

  26. Debbie April 21, 2014 at 2:01 pm #

    Top 100 denialist scams?
Is that like the top 100 hits on radio?
Bazza has apparently resorted to using pop sound bites.
I guess it’s a nice change from the ‘record breaking’ sport sound bites.
Do all those top 100 deny the same thing and if so. . .what is being specifically denied?

  27. Robert April 21, 2014 at 4:13 pm #

I think it was the top 97 denialist scams which got rebutted while we were in the bathroom. Bazza, nobody believes 100 for some reason. 97 is the golden number, whether you’re talking percentages or dollars. It’s close enough to 100 for convincing the punters, but adds a touch of realism. Learn from the greats like Lew and Cookie!

  28. spangled drongo April 21, 2014 at 5:41 pm #

It is in the admission of ignorance and the admission of uncertainty that there is a hope for the continuous motion of human beings in some direction that doesn’t get confined, permanently blocked, as it has so many times before in various periods in the history of man.

    – Richard Feynman

But now, when the 97% are 95% certain, there’s not much room for ignorance and uncertainty and no need for debate in all that settled science.

    The hubris is breathtaking.

  29. Neville April 22, 2014 at 8:31 am #

So much for all the horrors to come by 2100 predicted by all the barking mad Labor and green loonies over the last few decades.
Matt Ridley uses actual UN and IPCC numbers and projections to find that everyone will be fabulously wealthy compared to today. And that’s a projected 10 to 12 billion people by 2100.

This just backs up Lomborgs’ work ten years ago, included in his book “Cool It.” Luke and bazza will be devastated.

  30. Beth Cooper April 22, 2014 at 5:17 pm #

In sci-fi the golden number was ’42.’ In sci-cli its ’97,’
allowing for uncertainty, more scienterific perhaps?

  31. Ray April 23, 2014 at 12:12 am #

George Brandis should be commended for championing the cause of climate change sceptics, and deriding the climate change warmists for their essentially evil propagandising. Sadly, there are many of the latter in the Coalition — Greg Hunt falls into that category.

It is high time that Greg Hunt woke up to the fact that Labor lost government — not that the Coalition won because of its direct action policy.

It is a matter of fact that there is no scientific or economic justification for spending any money on ‘direct action’. Clive Palmer should be commended for voicing his opposition to direct action. He may turn out to be the hero that forces the Coalition to water down, if not drop, implementation of direct action.

  32. Neville April 23, 2014 at 8:04 am #

This is the best response to earth day that I’ve seen. Macca on ABC “OZ all over” forever played this song until even I found myself whistling and singing it.
Macca isn’t a big fan of globull warming BS and I think he just liked to take the p–s. Go Macca.

  33. Neville April 23, 2014 at 10:03 am #

The ABC’s Alberici jumps in at full flight only too willing to display her bias and pig ignorance for all to see.
And this delusional nonsense is paid for by the poor bloody taxpayer with zip chance of balancing this rubbish via a more informed ABC journo. Can anything be more corrupt than this misleading nonsense?

  34. Neville April 23, 2014 at 10:18 am #

Yes it really is a religion. And I thought Germans didn’t have a sense of humour. But then again they’d either laugh or cry at their pollies insanity.

  35. spangled drongo April 23, 2014 at 12:39 pm #

Neville, I just sent our darling FOS [freedom of speech, not the other] ABC an email wrt that interview:

“WRT Emma Alberici’s interview of Maurice Newman last night on lateline could you please bring to her attention this new scientific paper from the Journal of Atmospheric Sciences by Timothy W Cronin.

She was critical of Newman’s quoting of Roy Spencer’s critique of the IPCC models being 95% wrong and claimed that others claimed that it was Spencer who was wrong.

As noted by Dr. Roy Spencer, a change in planetary albedo of only 1-2% alone can account for global warming or global cooling, but this paper finds climate model planetary albedo may be biased as much as 6% due to errors of the solar zenith angle alone!

This totally supports Maurice Newman’s claim as to how and why the IPCC models are 95% wrong.

It would be appreciated by all if the ABC generally could be a little more sceptical about the “settled” warming science when even the IPCC are unable to produce any quantification of the degree to which humans are responsible.

I’m expecting Emma will get back to me with thanks and appreciation very shortly.

  39. Ian Thomson April 24, 2014 at 5:50 am #

So I take it there is not a top 100, but a top 97. That is still a fair bit of denialistic scamming . Wish we could see and admire them Baz

  40. Neville April 24, 2014 at 8:55 am #

Ian I think bazza and Luke desk are probably trying to concoct a list at the moment. I’d like to see it and even a tenth of bazza’s claimed 100 would do. But don’t hold your breath.

The Bolter has made some good points in todays column about the govt’s direct action plan and Labor’s spending lunacy and co2 tax etc when they were in govt.
I agree that Palmer is correct that DA can’t make a scrap of difference to co2 levels or climate or temp or SLs or glacier advance/retreat or bushfires or the GBR or MDB or polar bears or global sea ice or rainfall or drought or floods or cyclones or etc.

But the trouble is the silly OZ electorate still want something done to “FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE.” On a one to one basis I can ussually convince someone of the folly of such stupidity but to do that accross the electorate is an impossible task. If we have to have a plan then DA is the cheapest way to do nothing, but it still costs a few billion down the gurgler for zero return.

Labor’s mess has already cost jobs and can only be worse if we have to waste endless billions $ to purchase fake, corrupt co2 certificates from the EU every year to accomplish ZIP. Just ask Germany etc who are now building lignite power stns to fix their energy grids.
But the govt certainly has a mandate to get rid of Labor’s lunacy and introduce DA I suppose, although it hurts me to say it.

  41. Robert April 24, 2014 at 9:30 am #

Just use DA to modernise coal power gen and mitigate bushfire. You can argue you’re the champion carbon buster of the world, luvvies get their emissions reductions, non-luvvies get better power supply and fewer fires to fight. The luvvies won’t be happy with this arrangement…but that lot won’t be happy till we’re Mother Russia and they’ve got the keys to the caviar fridge.

  42. Neville April 25, 2014 at 8:27 am #

It seems that more scientists are waking up to so called dangerous SLR and the drowned coral island BS.
Of course this has been known since Charles Darwin was a boy and yet these dills are just starting to wake up.

  43. Neville April 25, 2014 at 10:40 am #

More deception from Fairfax media doing there level best to hide the facts from the OZ electorate. Of course their deception also helps the liars from the Labor and Greens parties. But can this monster ponzi scheme of CAGW mitigation remain hidden from the average Aussie for much longer?
Mark Markopolos looked at Madoff’s ponzi scheme con for just 5 minutes in 1999 and knew that it had to be a fraud. Why , because the numbers didn’t add up. But nobody would listen to him. Now Madoff is serving a 150 year sentence for the 17 billion $ fraud, which is the largest in world history.
Makes you think doesn’t it? Or does it?

  44. Bob_FJ April 25, 2014 at 5:10 pm #

On the earlier post here entitled “Rewriting the History of Bourke: Part 3…” I noticed that Bazza’s last comment was on 16/April and he failed to respond to some significant rational issues raised that followed. Oh well! I wondered, maybe he was delayed by other things, just as I was to a degree.
However, I’m now shocked to find that Bazza has contributed to this thread herewith before the one cited above offered him great opportunity to shine-forth.

I have not read all of the following study, but wonder if maybe Bazza might be interested in the general matters raised therein?

  45. Bob_FJ April 25, 2014 at 5:39 pm #

    Neville @ 8:27 am

Yes, I have not read the paper because I seem to recall that there was an earlier study that not only do coral islands keep pace with sea level rise but they also change in shape, not necessarily to any detriment. Given that sea level rise is slow and coral grows in response to its environmental needs, it seems hardly surprising.
Don’t know if I’m hallucinating from a dream or something, but I seem to recall that the Maldives government cabinet had a meeting under the sea to demonstrate their concern at sea level rise. But, then made investments in infrastructure including an airport to boost tourism????

  46. Bob_FJ April 25, 2014 at 5:59 pm #

    spangled drongo April 23rd @ 12:39 pm,

From my experience with direct enquiry and commentary to individuals within the ABC and also through some twenty formal complaints to the self-claimed independent arbitrators; A&CA (Audience & Consumer Affairs), whom answer to Mark Scott (the MD), I admire your confidence in a good outcome.

But good luck in your endeavours!

  47. Neville April 26, 2014 at 10:41 am #

Good to see Jo Nova highlighting the ridicule suffered by the German govt over its extreme waste of 100 billion $ on clueless green energy schemes. And ditto the rest of the EU as well.

Of course zip change to climate or co2 levels or temp by 2100 or for thousands of years. Just refer to the latest RS and NAS report.

Why doesn’t anybody want to tackle this CAGW mitigation fraud head on? It took Mark Markopolos just five minutes to discover the Madoff ponzi scheme but nobody would listen. You see the numbers just wouldn’t add up. But it would take another 9 years before Madoff was arrested and charged. He is now serving 159 years in prison for his fraud.

This super dooper ponzi mitigation fraud is actually FINANCED and PROMOTED by nearly every major govt on the planet and yet can only deliver a zero return on the investment for thousands of years. Yet everyone dives for cover and won’t even discuss these obviously fraudulent practices. Why is that?

  48. Neville April 26, 2014 at 11:06 am #

This German (and EU?) ponzi scheme fraud is even more idiotic than I imagined. Only the big companies are helped and smaller firms suffer a heavier penalty.
But this higher energy cost fraud sliced 15 billion euros off German exports in just the last 12 months and the poor taxpayer pays about 10 times more for hopelessly inefficient green energy to run their homes. What a mess.

  50. Martin Hertzberg April 27, 2014 at 2:47 am #

This responsive reading taken from the Unitarian – Universalist hymnal is a most telling response to your article about the suppression of skeptic views on climate change.

Cherish your doubts, for doubt is the attendant of truth.

Doubt is the key to the door of knowledge, it is the servant of discovery.

A belief which may not be questioned binds us to error, for there is incompleteness and imperfection in every belief.

Doubt is the touchstone of truth: it is an acid which eats away the false.

Let no one fear for the truth, that doubt may consume it, for doubt is a testing of belief.

The truth stands boldly and unafraid, it is not shaken by the testing:

For truth, if it be truth, arises from each testing stronger, more secure.

Those that would silence doubt are filled with fear; their houses are built on shifting sands.

But those who fear not doubt, and know its use, are founded on rock.

They shall walk in the light of growing knowledge; the work off their hands shall endure.

Therefore let us not fear doubt, but rejoice in its help:

It is to the wise as a staff to the blind; doubt is the attendant of truth”

    Rev. Robert T Weston

Nevertheless the Unitarian Universalist Association publication “The World” refuses to publish my skeptical letters and keeps quoting McKibben and Hanson rather than real scientists.

  51. Neville April 27, 2014 at 8:14 am #

Martin that post of yours was a real hoot. As I read the wise words at the start I wondered if these people really believed their rhetoric.
I thought they wouldn’t as you’ve confirmed by their HIPPO response to your letters. But to promote people like McKibben and Hansen just proves how far down the garden path they are and are happily playing with the fairies.
Anyway since when did religions welcome criticism? Look at your history and you’ll find that when Christians, Muslims or Jews etc had power they happily fought tooth and claw to suppress minority beliefs and would rob, rape, torture, burn and kill anyone who stood in their way.
But they’re good for a giggle anyway.

  52. Neville April 27, 2014 at 9:40 am #

A good article quoting ex NASA scientist Prof Les Woodcock. He says that AGW is nonsense and doesn’t think there is anything unusual at all with the climate over the last 100 years. And he certainly seems to have the expertise to back up his claims.
Of course James Lovelock now agrees with him.

But we know that many recent studies show a deceleration in SLR and a recent study of glaciers also show a deceleration in retreat since 1950.

  53. Neville April 28, 2014 at 8:13 am #

More proof that the IPCC is hopelessly corrupt. As if we needed any further proof about this highly political organisation.
Most sceptics have understood this corruption for decades.

  54. Neville April 28, 2014 at 11:09 am #

We are told that OZ is experiencing warmer conditions and heatwaves are getting worse. But a warm place like Adelaide has a higher death toll from hyperthermia than very cold Nth European Sweden. Adelaide 3.9 per 100,000 while Sweden has 3.3. Incredible but true, I guess all those super expensive solar and wind farms don’t help much at all. Adelaide numbers come from elderly widows living alone while Sweden’s numbers come from drunk much younger males dying in snow drifts.

  55. Neville April 28, 2014 at 12:58 pm #

Unbelievable ignorance displayed by the former archbishop of Canterbury.

Why are these religious extremists always so keen to show how little they understand about historical climate? Must be something in their holy water.
Of course he couldn’t care less that we would be wasting endless trillions $ over thousands of years for a guaranteed zero return. But why do people follow these silly fools?

  56. Neville April 28, 2014 at 3:02 pm #

The German minister put in charge of fixing their solar and wind energy mess calls it utter madness and says the rest of EU thinks we’re crazy.

I just wish they’d tell us something we don’t know for a change. Informed sceptics have been banging on about this for years. This giant ponzi scheme is a corrupt fraud and con because it can’t work and the numbers simply don’t add up.

  57. Neville April 28, 2014 at 4:52 pm #

Shock, horror it looks like polar bears are in trouble because there is too much ice. After decades of garbage by liars and extremists about too little ice it now seems it was just the opposite and PBs moved away from areas that had too much spring ice.
The seals couldn’t survive there and left and so the bears just followed them. Will these dingbats ever wake up?

  58. BethCooper April 28, 2014 at 5:00 pm #

The historical record indicates that Planet Earth climate has see-sawed between
ice ages and warming periods on a regular basis.

So Neville, “polar bear biologists” went for a nice, exciting summer trip to count and look at bears in 2004 and 2006, ( a la Prof Turkey’s dream). Obviously they did not consult any locals, or experts, because they were ‘ on a mish’.
Love to know who funded that count, which has been used to scare little schoolkids ever since.
As usual, no science in the ” settled science”. The conclusions came before the ‘study’ .

Ian the fact is they just love their BS yarns and the more BS the better. Interesting observations from Judith Curry about the recent Cazenave et al SLR study.

It seems that SLR during the last 100 years is primarily due to natural influences and not AGW. Take out ENSO and PDO etc and you’re left with zip. But where is all that thermal expansion from Trenberth’s missing heat I wonder?

This is what you call real man-made global warming.
Just manipulate the data until you get the desired result. And you can actually turn a cooling trend into a warming trend in some USA states. REAL man-made warming to increase the USA temp trend over the last 100+ years.

Do readers agree with Brandis that people have a right to be bogoted?

  64. Beth Cooper April 30, 2014 at 4:26 pm #

Yes. Free speech implies free thought, the basis of intellectual enquiry, but not freedom
to act out yr views by acts of physical injury. Once you open the green door to thought
control yr in Orwell Territory or IPCC Consensus Land.

“Do readers agree with Brandis that people have a right to be bogoted?”

Yep; get rid of the RDA.

I think this ‘right to be bigoted’ meme is off track. People are bigoted – it is part of human nature. If you can find one person without bias – well, let’s send them to heaven immediately so the rest of us don’t make them feel dirty.

I know I am better than you; I know my family, ungrateful rotters that they are, are better than your family; my political party is better than your malicious pigsty of losers; Australia is better than any country in the world, etc.

    There are two problems:

    (1) Should people be allowed to say what they think? If not, well, how will they ever learn they may be wrong? Obviously this doesn’t work in question time, but not everyone is a politician.

    (2) Should there be limits on what people can say? In controlled societies the answer is yes, the rulers can decide what can be said and what cannot. In free societies the question is more complex. Can you shout ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre? Well, if the theatre is old and rickety, with lots of combustibles hanging from the ceiling and the band on-stage is setting off fireworks, maybe you bloody well should.

Personally, being a powerless old white male, I find it both intimidating and offensive when I hear harridans slagging my ethnic group on the ABC. Can I seek redress under the Racial Discrimination Act? No, because this act is not for all Australians, it is only for a few pampered groups who have enough control on the media and government of the day to enforce it. This is properly called a tyranny and has nothing to do with fair and equitable treatment under the law.

    Good question, sp.

If you banned bigotry you would ban most of the civilised world.

Some of the biggest bigots are those who are currently slandering Brandis, who merely wants to allow them to do it.

    bloody oath SP

I certainly believe in free speech, but everyone should be judged by what they say. Is it bigotry for a muslim leader to call Jews pigs and monkeys or a MSM journo to call for Brendan Nelson to be glassed (a call to glass the c…t) or a union leader’s call for the Qantas chief to be shot in the back of the head or Kathy Jackson to be booed repeatedly and abused for trying to clean up the HSU or a call for Abbott to be decapitated ( performed more than once at recent rallies on dummies)
I think we get the picture, but I would draw the line at any exploitation of children under any circumstances, no ifs no buts.

  70. Neville May 1, 2014 at 8:51 am #

So yes I think that everyone has the right to be a bigot in a free society with the full knowledge that they can be judged by what they say.
I remember the repulsive NAMBLA scum gained some left wing support in the USA for promoting sex with children in their magazines, videos etc. This organisation should be outlawed in my opinion in any reasonable free society.

I called Mick Martyn an ape during the ’96 GF. Didn’t like him shutting down Lockett. When he was drafted to Carlton the coach said they wanted a gorilla at fullback.

It’s okay though. I’m sure Mick will be made Australian of the Year for our deliberate attack on his Anglo-Celtic ancestry. And I’m sure the police will want to interrogate me and Dennis Pagan till the early hours – even if we aren’t thirteen year old schoolgirls.
