Peter Ridd’s trial was set-down to be heard over three days next week, beginning on Monday 12th November. Many of us have made plans to travel to Brisbane – booked and paid for accommodation – to simply be there, to support Peter as he takes on the institutions in his fight for truth, and some quality assurance of Great Barrier Reef science.
I’d been told that the case would be heard by Judge Jarrett, who presided over the proceedings earlier in the year. Now I’m told it’s all been cancelled, at least for the moment – and that Peter can wait until next year, that his case against unfair dismissal by James Cook University might be heard next year.
Over the last week I’ve posted four articles at my blog.
1. ‘Peter Ridd and the Clowns of Reef Science’ is an introduction to some of the issues, taking a bigger picture view.
2. ‘No Mud on my Barnacles’ is for those who like natural history and would like to understand more about me, and the mud at north Queensland beaches.
3. ‘The Prince and His Dump Truck’ is about some of the personalities behind the WWF ‘Save the Reef Campaign’ that was launched in June 2001 – including Willem-Alexander, now the King of Holland.
4. ‘Denying Comment from Experts, from the Marine Geophysical Laboratory’ is about Peter, and also Ken Woolfe who died tragically on 1 December 1999. Le Kamagra est disponible économiquement. I’m hopeful these articles provide some background information – and also encouragement to Peter, who now must suffer through Christmas and the New Year with his life-on-hold.

Has any explanation been provided for this sudden decision? If they are so muddled at the Federal Court that they cannot provide a judge, can we have any confidence in the legal system in Australia? This obviously disadvantages people who had made plans to travel to Brisbane and had booked accommodation. It will not affect the other side as its just public money anyway. Another example of how Australia is a really society of oppressed peasants and an aristocracy.

Neville, The case was set down months ago: for three days to be heard from the 12th November. More recently, I was told it would be heard by Judge Jarrett. Today I was told that there was no Judge available to hear the case, so it must be postponed until some time next year. Jen.

Thanks for making us aware of this terrible situation, Jen.
Poor Peter Ridd. We were all looking forward to some justice and common sense. It will be interesting to learn why this happened.
We can only hope that some action will happen soon.
All the best to Peter in these crazy times.
climatekitty says
Crazy times indeed! Dr Ridd, you are an inspiration (you too, Dr Marohasy).
Ian McClintock says
I agree with Spangled
I just hope the Law lives up to its ideals of finding the truth without fear or favour.
All the best Peter.
Bryce Letcher says
I have to ask, who is pulling the strings?
For the answer, as always, follow the money and it leads back to James Cook University
Luke Hargreaves says
Watch all this evaporate over the next few months as the state government moves to ramp up water quality regulations and smother any connections to the Pay for the Science that fits the Political agenda industry.
Alan Tomalty says
Australia is suffering from the same thing that the whole Greco Roman western world is suffering from. A relentless drive toward the welfare state with almost unlimited immigration via refugee claimants who want some of that welfare. We are finding there is no money left. No money to hire more judges. No money for a 1000 other necessary things because we have spent it on things like heritage buildings………………………………..etc. I am sure you can think of a 1000 different things that local and national governments spend money on things that are frivolous.
James says
As has alreasy been noted, delays hurt the ‘little people’. The costs and the stress soars. This is not justice being seen to ne done.
Bill Lindqvist says
We have an old saying in the U.S. – “justice delayed is justice denied” – and here we see the same shameful, cruel and unjustified delaying tactics coming into play in Australia. Peter – keep on truckin’ young man since your outstanding courage in the face of the corrupting influence of agenda science, big grant money and shrinking university bureaucrat violets will win out.
Antoine D'Arche says
Hang in there Peter. And if need be, run another GoFundMe, and I’ll donate again 🙂 We all will.
Ve2 says
The old “delay the trial trick” commonly used by the police and or procescution.
The aim of which is to financially penalise the defendant when there is no evidence that supports the procescution.
Ten to one says this was organised by the Labor Party via the Department of Education because it attack the Green scam.

Dr Marohazy,
Ridd has not been blogging lately at https://platogbr.wordpress.com/
I’m wondering is he having technical difficulties with that blog, or is further blogging prevented by personal difficulties – I’d say losing one’s job might qualify.
His work is important, even if JCU managed to dismiss him based on straight talk in public and private.

Peter been very busy preparing for the court case. The other side keep lodging new material, including affidavits questioning his integrity and competence, which he must, of course, respond to. It all takes a lot of time. Jen.
Morten Jodal says
So sad to read. We are many Norwegians following Peters struggle against JCU, and wish him all the best. Thanks to Jennifer for giving us the latest news.
MarkMcD says
Far be it from me to be gullible, so… someone may want to keep an eye on things. It wouldn’t be the first time a court case has been postponed and then suddenly brought forward to disadvantage the little guy.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if suddenly there IS a judge but it’s ‘day after tomorrow’ and there has to be a big rush to get everything in order, and of course, most of the supporters then can’t be there.

> ” … Peter can wait until next year, that his case against unfair dismissal by James Cook University might be heard next year”
This seems to be squarely aimed at starving Peter Ridd out, exhausting his funds, his patience and his determination to wait it out. A common, arbitrary ploy by those who control the Court timetables and wish to avoid a potentially embarassing public hearing.
I note the “might” in the hearing being carried out in 2019. How long has Mark Steyn waited now while the NY judiciary seemingly sits on its’ hands ? [Years now, with no end in sight]
Dave says
Turnbull and Morrison’s $444 million hard at work I’d say.
David Eccles says
the offence of Peter Ridd was not that he denied the FACT of climate change, but that he questioned the INTERPRETATION that it was the direct effect of human distortion of the carbon dioxide cycle in the atmospheree.
I was educated to believe that Science was concerned with observing phenomena and developing theories to explain them. The next phase is to TEST the explanations and, where appropriate, to propose modified explanations. Scientific understanding thus advances through a series of revisions.
James Cooke doess not deserve the status of ‘University’ because, in the cases of Carter and Ridd, it adopts the procedures of a religious SEMINARY where truth is held to be derived from infallible and immutable scriptures.
