June 23, 2011 By jennifer

Young Emperor Penguin keeps heading north and arrives in New Zealand!

This must have something to do with global warming? 😉

I gather that if he doesn’t start to head back south, which it probably won’t as it’s dark mid winter there, he will end up at Kelly Tarlton’s aquarium in Auckland which already has a flock of King Penguins.

If I was trying to scare people with global cooling, I would say that this is definite proof that the Antarctic Circle is expanding.

According to Wiki those which reach NZ are classified as ‘vagrants’.

‘Vagrants’, good one. Is it because they don’t have $10.00 in their pocket?

Why did the penguin cross the Tasman? it knew the KIwis were a clever and compassionate people pricing carbon to manage thier externalities at least cost. And the recent record La Nina, well maybe that too – if indeed it was an independent event.!

    Update on the penguin,
It started to get crook (temps too warm) and was eating sand and driftwood in an attempt to keep cold? Its gullet got choked up causing distress so it was packed in ice and taken to Wellington zoo hospital where we hope it will recover. I think it was aneasthetised and an op. performed to clear its alimentary canal of all the ingested stuff. They said they plan to release it off the southernmost part of NZ.but who knows they may even have to make a special trip south. The birds are much more comfortable in hellishly cold temps.

All in all a very expensive business with this mentally challenged penguin. It seems like only yesterday that they would have packed it off to the zoo for keeps, fresh breeding stock is always appreciated.

Do we have to return everything to the wild to prove we are one with Gaia?

He must have heard the announcements on the three solar metrics suggesting cooling and jumped the gun trying to beat the land rush on NZ property!!

    Kuhnkat,
Swallowing all that sand I would say he got his fair share of beachside property without going through all the formal paperwork.

Maybe some one could make the penguin a pet like this Japanese family has:

    Very obviously a ‘climate refugee’.

In the Arctic, we have polar bears heading south, supposedly due to shrinking ice.

So obviously, a shrinking of ice in Antarctica would send penguins to warmer climes.

    Yeah OK
