WikiLeaks Reveal US Obsession with Securing Copenhagen

December 6, 2010 By jennifer

“The leaked US diplomatic cables reveal how the US seeks dirt on nations opposed to its approach to tackling global warming; how financial and other aid is used by countries to gain political backing; how distrust, broken promises and creative accounting dog negotiations; and how the US mounted a secret global diplomatic offensive to overwhelm opposition to the controversial “Copenhagen accord”, the unofficial document that emerged from the ruins of the Copenhagen climate change summit in 2009.

“Perhaps the most audacious appeal for funds revealed in the cables is from Saudi Arabia, the world’s second biggest oil producer and one of the 25 richest countries in the world. A secret cable sent on 12 February records a meeting between US embassy officials and lead climate change negotiator Mohammad al-Sabban. “The kingdom will need time to diversify its economy away from petroleum, [Sabban] said, noting a US commitment to help Saudi Arabia with its economic diversification efforts would ‘take the pressure off climate change negotiations’.”

“US determination to seek allies against its most powerful adversaries – the rising economic giants of Brazil, South Africa, India, China (Basic) – is set out in another cable from Brussels on 17 February reporting a meeting between the deputy national security adviser, Michael Froman, Hedegaard and other EU officials.

“Froman said the EU needed to learn from Basic’s skill at impeding US and EU initiatives and playing them off against each in order “to better handle third country obstructionism and avoid future train wrecks on climate”.

Being a sceptic and denier and against big gubmint, it is still hard to understand how bad it really has gotten here in the US.

shock and horror! Global warming has stopped
    (last para quote)
The question now emerging for climate scientists and policymakers alike is very simple. Just how long does a pause have to be before the thesis that the world is getting hotter because of human activity starts to collapse?

When C/Models are put to the test they fail miserably, more proof that it’s all a con, can’t say I’m surprised.

“If Julian Assange is a criminal than every national newspaper that has published exactly the same stories is also a criminal. Are we going to lock up editors from all over the planet? I don’t think so.”

    Mark Stephens (Assange’s lawyer).

Mr Stephen’s remark is rather forlorn and legally tenuous to the point of vapidity; one might as well say that the reporting of a murderer shares the guilt; even in defamation the third party broadcasting of defamatory material can be defended as innocent dissemination which merely is the instance of the imputation.

More generally third party source confidentiality does have some legal standing albeit much less than legal or confessional privilege and those areas of confidentiality are becoming increasingly qualified.

I think with Assange that his motives are one area which have to be looked at as a prelude to establishing criminality or lack of it; wanting and ensuring a transparent political procedure and an informed populace is a laudatory and honourable motive; but, alternatively, wanting to undermine the political process and strategic security of the various nations, particularly the US, and recklessly put people and interests in harm’s way is another issue altogether.

More interesting facts showing the nonsense of the warmist year ever garbage.

There are three warm months and that’s it.

It’s all about soft targets. I know a bloke who specialises in attacking US ordnance with a hammer or whatever falls easy to hand and all he ever gets is a slap on the wrist.

If he tried it on the more needing of this type of treatment he wouldn’t stay alive 5 minutes.

‘WikiLeaks coined a new type of journalism: scientific journalism. We work with other media outlets to bring people the news, but also to prove it is true. Scientific journalism allows you to read a news story, then to click online to see the original document it is based on. That way you can judge for yourself: Is the story true? Did the journalist report it accurately?’
