I totally agree with the above two posts.It disgusts me that the Japanese are that arrogant,that they continue to something that is outlawed.
Imagine if they were trying to do the same with oil?????
I agree that if were up to me(which of course it is not),that the Enola gay would be doing glory laps around Tokyo right now,using the rising sun as a huge Bullseye!!!.

Firstly I would like to say that I am a New Zealander.I am disgusted at my countries brown nosing stance towards these Japanese whalers.The government here,are far more concerned about keeping trade ties with Japan then protecting our side of the world!.
The actions against the Ady Gil,the other day were most definately an act of Terror.If you doubt this in any way,please watch all three Videos on you tube.
The Japanese Whalers are continuing something of which is banned,and doing so under the false pretence of ‘Scientific Research’.Even if you dont care at all about animals,this should anger your average human being.
As far as comparing Whales to domestic farm animals(or vegetables) is somewhat shocking.Yes men slaughter these creatures.Before they do so They help them breed,give them food/water etc.Whales are solely left to their own devices,all man does is Slaughter them.How can anyone draw a comparison here??
If Governments refuse to enforce Treaties/Laws , then civilians are forced to respond.I say go Sea Shepherd,and anyone that takes a pro-active stance against the Whalers/Terrorists!

Firstly, I think Japanese whalers should be shot! Steve Irwin should go into Japanese port and attach limpet mines to all Japanese whaling vessels – that’s how strong I feel about the whole thing! But of course these actions are not practical.

The only way to stop this is to close the “loophole” allowing the whaling to take place. I’m afraid it’s down to negotiations and democracy. If enough countries lobby the Japanese, maybe we can stop it.

Still, think Hiroshima 2 might be a good idea considering the shark finning, dolphin slaughter, manta murder……

I Just watched whale wars on Natgeo last night and the captain getting shot and bullet lodged in bullet prof vest was the biggest joke I have ever seen it is obvious that it was a set up.
Iam no fan of jap whalers or japs in general but after watching that show I am a less fan of the people that are on the steve irwin.

I think that show has done more harm to your cause guys than help.

Whatever “violent” actions the Steve Irwin commits pale in comparison to the Japanese killing of whales.

Which is worse, property damage (the sea shepherds are opposed to harming humans) or the massace of hundreds of whales and future generations being deprived of ever seeing the beauty of whales because they are extinct.

The truth of the matter is that the Japanese are breaking the law by whaling in the Australian Antarctic Whale Sanctuary and the Australian government should be sending customs vessels out there to arrest or sink the Japanese fleet. But because of trade relations they wont. All the Sea Shepherds are doing is enforcing international law.

As far as Greenpeaces condemnation of the Sea Shephards goes, ofcourse they also want people to think the Steve Irwin is a pack of dangerous radicals. They are competing essentially for the same funding. If people realise that as far as stopping whale hunting goes the SS are far more effective than GP they will lose funding. Up until a year ago not a single whale had been killed when the sea shepherds were there, instead of the countless amount that had been killed infront of GP.

You could argue for or against their tactics forever, but the truth is what the sea shepherds do WORKS.

Whales are dying people, forget about watch the captain did. What is being done to protect whales from the so-called Japanese Researchers. Come ON! While you are there with your comment, dead whales are ending in the plates of Japanese. Japan is not suffering from a hunger crisis so lets stop this action by the hisshu pishu or whatever sishu it is. Killers are what they are!

People have to remember what is hapening here. Are the Japanese seeking out and attacking the Steve Irwin? No they are not. Is the Steve Irwin seeking out and attacking the Japanese fleet? Yes they are. That is all that is at issue here. All the other stuff only serves to distract from the root offense here. The Steve Irwin seeks to cause property damage and make working on the deck of the ships highly dangerous by throwing chemicals on them. They have also deliberately rammed the Japanese. At this point the Japanese would be fully withing their rights to use lethal force to defend themselves. The crew of the Steve Irwin is very lucky they have not chosen to do so. Paul shows very little regard for the safety of his crew of his ship. This I also find criminal. The kids that make up his crew are still incredibly naive and I can excuse them for their stupidity but not Mr. Watson. Even some of them care enough about their own safety to find some of his actions/decisions questionable. I’m all for protecting endangered species of all kinds but NOT at the cost of human lives. The safety of the people on that ship and those on the Japanese ships MUST come first. Let’s be honest here. If they tried to pull this crap on American ships the crew would have been sitting in American courts facing criminal charges. The world community has given the Sea Shepherds a pass for far too long. In order for our society to function laws must be enforced. The Sea Shepherds have done much to hurt the cause they are trying to champion.

My chief concern (aside from the obvious ones posted here, which I agree with bi-laterally) is for the safety of the starey-eyed young people who are recruited to volunteer for service on the MV Steve Ervin. I’ve watched several episodes this season and came to the opinion that it is a ship of fools in a seamship sense. Nothing seems to be rehersed, training is obviously absent and strategies and tactics are spontaneous and crude. The atmosphere on the bridge is a democracy of morons particularly during engagements when the captain often leaves the bridge to go sulk in his cabin leaving a helmsman to complete half baked, partially completed maneuvers without a clue for what to do next. Mission aside, even if I thought these people were possibly going to save all mankind, I’d bet against them on competence alone. Thirty days is long enough to at least have some ideas about how to get where you are going–35 years you should have been there.

Yep, it is high time the world saw some footage of long lines of hungry people waiting their turn for some vacpac whale meat. Nothing improves one’s outlook on life like an overdue dose of protein and what better use for an abundant, sustainably managed, natural resource.

It would also increase the total volumes back to the levels where economies of scale kick in. And the sight of all those NGO wankers squirming would be priceless.
