Sorry Jen, I'm 46 Km above the salt water, as the as the river runs these days. Although that's only 12 KM as the crow flies, I've not had much do do with mangroves for about 18 years, now.

I did not even know there was a problem, insular or what.

The last time I had much to do with them, they were still trying to take over my little bit of beach, [high tide only], on Russell Island.

Hi Hasbeen,
Yep, no mangroves in Horseshoe Bay!
I was across from Hinchbrook Island on Monday though, and did see a lot of good and tall mangrove and a patch of Nypa Palm.
Today I shall be looking about Mackay.
And thanks for the tip about the bolt holes just south of Shute Habour.

You won't find many mangroves in horseshoe bay Jen.
If you want to see some good mangroves some of the best are at the northern end of Hinchinbrook Island. If you can't get back there, there are some good flats, with deep creeks we used as cyclone bolt holes for Whitsunday Is tourist boats, on the mainland just south of Shute Harbour, inside Long Island.

Boats are available at Shute, & some of the boaties may be prepared to show you the bolt holes. You need some tide to get in there, even in a tinny.
