I was across from Hinchbrook Island on Monday though, and did see a lot of good and tall mangrove and a patch of Nypa Palm. Today I shall be looking about Mackay. If you want to see some good mangroves some of the best are at the northern end of Hinchinbrook Island. If you can't get back there, there are some good flats, with deep creeks we used as cyclone bolt holes for Whitsunday Is tourist boats, on the mainland just south of Shute Harbour, inside Long Island. Boats are available at Shute, & some of the boaties may be prepared to show you the bolt holes. You need some tide to get in there, even in a tinny.
