I thought that was how science works - everything tested to destruction rather than being protected .

In my own field we have issues with certain eminent scientists (some of whom are in Oz)whose work we think is 'flawed' to say the least.

Dunno Paul - I think denialists are disputing everything including the kitchen sink.

It's not a case of being sceptical about warming -it's the cause that's in dispute, and alarmist predictions.

Just shows you can pick any data to suit your agenda. How about this one? September maximum temperatures in Sydney have averaged well above the 1961-1990 mean for 9 years in a row. This year is shaping up to be another one. I'd love to be a sceptic of warming here, but the raw data tells otherwise.

1961-1990 mean: 20.4 °C

Means from 1997 to 2006: 19.4, 22.1, 21.2, 22.7, 22.3, 22.7, 22.6, 21.8, 21, 23.1.

Climate predictions are always made with an error estimate. The same is done here in Australia, when they said that we would have increased rainfall this year, they never claimed that it would happen, just that it was likely to happen. As it turned out, it didn't happen. La Nina has been a big letdown, with many farmers experiencing yet another year of crop failure.

Was that a result of scientific research, or just someone's opinion?
